RagTime 6.5.2 crashing

Hi everyone,

First I want to apologise for my English language because I cannot write German language.

I will appreciate it when you can help me with the following problem.

I have RagTime 6.5.2 running on Vista Business. When I work in RagTime it crash after a few minutes. When I try to restart RagTime it does not open again and nothing happens.

I send a lot of emails to RagTime GMBH about this crashing but received never an answer.

Anybody else having this problem and did find a solution.

You can make your reply in German, I will understand.

That might be difficult to find out. The second effect - RagTime can not be started again - is not that unusual if a program crashes: The process did not stop entirely. Open the task manager and you will probably find that RagTime is still in it. Stop it and starting RagTime again will be possible.

The main question of course is: Why does RagTime crash in the first place. You write that it happens after some minutes. Does this hold if you simply do nothing? I.e.: If you start RagTime and fetch a cup of tea or coffee, does it still crash? Or is there some specific action you need to do?

Vista: 32 or 64bit? sp1, sp2?
How much RAM?
What size is your "Auslagerungsdatei" (pagefile.sys, I don't what is it
called in english)?
Did you empty your TEMP-folders?

Are any background-tasks running i.e. an AntiVirus-software?
Are any other programs running at the same time?

Did you run the checkdisk-program (chkdsk.exe or from the tools-section
of the HD-properties)?

I am using Windows Vista Business SP2 with 2GB RAM. Pagefile.sys is 2048 MB. I did not empty my "Temp" folder, however I am running TuneUp Utilities and Advanced System Care which empty the temp folder automaticly.

I did some experimentation and found out following strange behaviour :

When I tried to change a complete row into my spreadsheet to bold, some fields got bold other not. Then I selected one of the fields which did not got bold and the styling buttons greyed out. I typed a new text in them and quess what... I could format them again.

Then I typed some dummy text into the spreadsheet and I received the error. But this time I choose for sending a report. Then I got an error dialog telling me that RagTime was not longer working and that the computer searched for a solution. After a while I could choose "close" in this dialog. Then when I try to restart, RagTime starts again.

That is the difference with former tries, there I did not choose to send a report and I also could not start RagTime again. I checked the taskmanager and Ragtime was not present in the list.

Then I checked some empty cells in this spreadsheet, which I did not change or alter, there where in the position as when the spreadsheet was created. I found out that none of them could be styled, all the style buttons where greyed out. Also the document is not protected.

Then I choosed all cells by clicking in the top left corner and gave them the font "Arial". Now everything looks fine, I do not receive any more messages or crashes.

I do not know what went wrong. But for the moment RagTime does not crash any longer. I think some of the cells got damaged and when I reapplied the font, that fixed the problem. But that is a big guess.

I will keep you informed when this crashing re-occur.
